2 cups brown sugar
1 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup hot water
3 cups flour (sift flour before measuring)
1/2 cup nut meats
Coconut or raisins, or some of each

Directions:

Bake at 250 F. for 25 minutes or until done. Ice while warm and cut into squares.
