1 pkg. Baker's German Chocolate
1/2 cup warm water
2 1/2 cups flour
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup butter or margarine (2 sticks)
2 1/2 cups sugar or Splenda
8 egg yolks
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup buttermilk
8 egg whites

Directions:

Mix flour, soda, and salt. Sift flour mixture 3 times then set aside. Heat water and chocolate until melted. Beat butter, sugar, and chocolate mixture until smooth and well mixed. Add flour and buttermilk alternately, beating after each addition. Add vanilla and 4 well beaten egg yolks to batter and beat well. Fold in egg whites stiffly beaten. Bake at 350 in two heavy pans (I use a cast iron skillet). Bake 30 minutes or until toothpick in center comes out clean. Leave in pan 10 minutes then remove to wire rack. See icing recipe. Serves: 12 Prep: 30 minutes
