For the filling:
1 lb. butter
1/4 cup chopped nuts
1/4 cup chopped maraschino cherries
3 lbs. confectioners sugar
1/4 cup coconut

For the chocolate coating:
1 pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 large chocolate bar
1 block paraffin wax

Directions:

For the filling:
Mix butter and sugar with hands until smooth, then add nuts, coconut and cherries into desired egg shape size or one inch balls.

For the chocolate coating;
Melt all chocolate coating ingredients in a double boiler and dips eggs or balls. Place on wax paper and let cool and set. Can be decorated with ornamental frosting.

This recipe was made up by our grandmother, Verda Flaherty. As long as I can remember at Easter time, Mom, Aunt Patty & Aunt Sally would get together and make these eggs. They would be decorated with pastel frosting decorations and our names right in the middle of the top of the egg. If that egg wasn't in our Easter baskets on Easter morn, well then, something wasn't right in the universe. As my sisters and I are adults now, our Mom makes this recipe into ball shaped and oh my goodness they are just as good!
