4 cups rhubarb
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup water
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup shortening
2/3 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
2/3 cup milk

Directions:
Directions:
Cook rhubarb, 1 cup sugar and water stirring occasionally. Keep hot. Sift flour, baking powder and salt.
Cream shortening, 2/3 cup sugar and egg - Beat till light. Add vanilla to milk and add alternately with dry ingredients. Stir till smooth, pour in 9" pan. Pour rhubarb over cake mixture. Bake at 350 for 35 to 40 minutes.
