2 c sugar,
1 c shortening,
2 eggs,
2 tsp. baking soda,
1/2 c cocoa,
3 c flour,
1 c coffee or hot water,
1 c sour milk

Directions:
Directions:
Mix sugar, shortening and eggs together then add rest of ingredients and mix until smooth. Pour into greased 9X13 pan.
Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.

This recipe was from my mother-in-law, Jane Philbrook. It makes a deep heavy cake that is delicious with peanut butter frosting.
Sometimes I use sour milk (by adding a tbsp. of vinegar to regular milk) or I just use regular milk. Sour does give it a better flavor though.
