Devil Food: 1/2 cup coco 1/2 cup boiling water 2 teaspoons soda 1 3/4 cups of sugar 3/4 cup of shortening 2 1/2 cups flour 2 eggs 3/4 cup sour milk 1 teaspoon vanilla
Filling: 2 tablespoons coco 1/2 cup cream 1 cup sugar 2 egg yolks or 1 whole egg 1/2 cup sugar 2 tablespoons butter 1 tsp vanilla
Devil Food: Mix coco, boiling water and soda; let stand until rest of cake is mixed. Mix remaining ingredients and add coco mixture. Bake 25 - 30 minutes at 350º.
Filling: Combine coco and cream in double boiler; cook until blended, stirring constantly. Add 1 cup sugar and cook until smooth. Beat eggs with 1/2 cup sugar and add to mixture with butter. Cook until forms soft ball in water. Add vanilla, cool and beat until creamy. Spread on cooled cake.
