1 lb dates
1 cup sugar
1 cup water plus a little more
Cook until syrupy - then cool

1cup brown sugar
1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups oatmeal
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon soda
1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions:
Directions:
Mix all ingredients until crumbly. Pack this in bottom of 13" X 9" pan and push up slightly on the sides. Leave some to sprinkle on top. Pour dates on mixture in pan. Sprinkle the rest on top and pat lightly. Bake 350 for 25 to 30 minutes. Cool and cut into squares.
