1/2 cup hot water
1/2 cup lard
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup white sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
dash salt
1/2 cup molasses
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup dark karo
1 egg
2 scant cups flour

Directions:
Directions:
Combine hot water and lard. Set aside. Mix raisins and sugar. Set aside. Put baking soda, cloves, ginger, salt, molasses, sugar, and karo in bowl and swoop it around so the soda will go to work. Drop egg right into the bowl and beat well with a spoon. Then add the boiled water and lard mixture. Stir. Add the flour and stir well. Dump into a greased and floured 9x13 pan. Sprinkle raisin mixture over the top and bake in a 325 degree oven for 30-35 minutes.
