1/3 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 3/4 cups sifted flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp soda
2 cups mashed ripe banana
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
1. Cream shorening and sugar.
2. Add eggs and beat well.
3. Sift togegther dry ingredients.
4. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alterately with bananas, blending well after addition.
5. Stir in nuts.
6. Pour into well-greased 9 1/2 x 5 x 3 pan.
7. Bake at 350 over for 40-45 minutes, testing with toothpick for doneness.
8. Cool on rack for 1 hour.
