4 large apples, peeled, cored, sliced
1/2 C. brown sugar
cinnamon
1/3 C. shortening
1/2 C. sugar
1 egg
1/2 C. milk
1/2 C. flour
1/2 C. rolled oats
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Put apple slices into greased baking dish. Sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon mixture. Make batter of other ingredients, pour over the apples, and bake at 375 degrees until brown. Serve warm with whipped topping.

This is my mother's recipe. I usually double the batter ingredients, as I prefer more of the "cake-like" combination.
