2 c. brown sugar
1 c. shortening or margarine
1 c. molasses
1 c. buttermilk
2 eggs
1 T. soda
1 tsp. salt
4 to 6 c. plain flour
1 T. cinnamon
1 T. ginger

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and shortening together. Add eggs, mix together salt, soda, cinnamon and ginger. Add to mixture. Add molasses and buttermilk, alternate with 4 cups flour. Mix well. Add remaining flour until it is the consistancy of bread dough.

Divide into equal parts (5 or more) depending on how many layers you want and how thick. Flour wax paper and knead each layer like biscuits, pat into iron skillet. Bake 400 degrees until done. Spread cooked apples or applesauce between layers.
