2 T. sugar
1 T. cornstarch
1/4 t. cream of tartar
1/2 c. water
3 egg whites
1/8 t. salt
1/2 t. vanilla
6 T. sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Combine in small pan the sugar, cream of tartar and cornstarch. Add the water. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture is thick and clear. Cool. Beat egg whites with 1/8 tsp. salt and 1/2 tsp. vanilla until soft mounds form. Add sugar gradually beating well after each addition. Add cornstarch mixture and continue beating until meringue stands in stiff peaks. Spread meringue over cooled pie filling. Bake 12 to 15 minutes at 350 degrees.
