3/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter, softened
1/2 c. margarine
1 1/2 t. vanilla
1 egg
2 1/4 c. flour
1 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt
1c. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 c. nuts, chopped (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 375 degrees. In large bowl, beat brown sugar, sugar, butter and margarine until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and egg; beat well. Lightly spoon flour into measurintg cup; level off. Add flour, baking soda and salt; mix well. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts. Drop dough by teaspoonful 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets; flatten slightly with the back of spoon. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheets. 4 dozen cookies.

I usually double this recipe. It is fun to substitute the chocolate chips with chunks of chocolate.
