Directions:
Beat 6 egg whites until foamy, and add 1/2 t. cream of tartar. Beat 1 1/2 c. sugar, very slowly 2 T. at a time, and continue beating until very stiff. Add 1 t. vanilla and beat again.
Butter a 13x9" pan, up to the edge. Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Spread meringue into pan and smooth top. Put into oven and TURN OFF THE HEAT. Leave over night in the oven and DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR.
Next day, at least 1 hour before serving, whip 1 pint whipping cream and spread over meringue. **I sweeten it with a little sugar and add a little vanilla before spreading on the meringue.
Spoon fresh or frozen strawberries or raspberries over each serving (sweetened berries).
