1 c. chopped dates
1 1/2 c. boiling water (Add 1/3 c. more water if you use dried date crystals)
1 tsp. soda
1 c. sugar
3/4 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
1/2 6 oz pkg chocolate chips

Directions:
Directions:
Combine dates and boiling water in large mixing bowl. Add soda, sugar, shortening, eggs, and vanilla, Sift flour, cinnamon and salt. Mix well. Pour into greased 9X12 pan. Top with brown sugar, walnuts, and chocolate chips. Bake at 350 F for 40 minutes
