1 cup butter
½ cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
2 ½ cups all purpose flour
½ teaspoon salt
1 oz unsweetened baking chocolate, melted and cooled
¼ chopped walnuts
2 tablespoons finely chopped and drained maraschino cherries
2 tablespoons poppy seed

Beat butter, sugar, vanilla and egg in a medium bowl with an electric mixer on medium speed. Stir in flour and salt. Divide dough into 3 parts. Mix chocolate and walnuts into 1 part of the dough. Mix cherries in another part of dough. Mix poppy seed into remaining part dough. Line a loaf pan (9x5x3) with plastic wrap, leaving 1 inch of plastic wrap overhanging at 2 opposite sides of the pan. Spread poppy seed dough evenly in the bottom of the pan. Spread chocolate-walnut dough over poppy seed dough. Spread cherry dough over chocolate-walnut dough. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. Heat oven to 375F. Remove dough from the pan, using the plastic wrap to lift. Cut dough lengthwise in half. Cut crosswise into ¼ inch slices. Place 1 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake about 10 minutes or until light brown. Immediately remove from cookie sheet to wire rack.
