1 pkge (4oz) Bakers German Sweet chocolate
1/2 cup boiling water
2 cups sugar
4 egg yolks
1 cup butter
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/4 cups sifted all purpose flour or use 2 1/2 cups sifted Swans Down cake flour
1 cup buttermilk
4 egg whites, stiffly beaten
1/2 tsp salt

Coconut Pecan Frosting:
1 cup evaporated milk
1 cup sugar
3 slightly beaten egg yolks
1/2 cup butter
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/3 cups angel flake coconut
1 cup chopped pecans

Melt chocolate in boiling water, cool. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy,. Add yolks, one at a time, beating well after each. Blend in vanilla and chocolate. Sift flour with soda and salt; add alternately with buttermilk to chocolate mixture, beating after each addition until smooth. Fold in the beaten egg whites. Pour into 3 --9 inch layer pans, greased and floured. Bake for 30 to 35 min. Test for doneness. Cool. Frost in between and top of layers.

Coconut pecan frosting.--Combine the evap milk, sugar, beaten egg yolks, butter and vanilla. cook and stir over med heat until thickened, about 12 min. Add the coconut and chopped pecans. Cool until thick enough to spread. Makes 2 1/2 cups.
