1/2 Cup Shortening
2 Cups Sugar
4 Eggs
1 Cup Buttermilk
1/2 Cup Cocoa
3 Cups Plain Flour
3 Teaspoons Baking Powder
1 Teaspoon Salt
1 Cup Boiling Water
2 Teaspoons Soda
2 Teaspoons Vanilla

Cream sugar and shortening until smooth.

Add beaten eggs.

Disolve the baking powder in the buttermilk.

Add the flour and buttermilk alternately with each other.

Pour boiling water over the cocoa and mix well. Add the soda to the cocoa mixture. Stir well and cool before adding to the cake mixture along with the vanilla.

Bake at 350 F for approximately 30 minutes or until done.
