Ingredients: 2 c. flour ½ tsp. salt 4 tsp. baking powder 1 Tbsp. sugar 1/3 c. shortening 1 egg, well beaten ½ c. milk

1 quart strawberries, cleaned and hulled ½ pint whipping cream, whipped

Directions: |
Directions:Sift dry ingredients; cut in shortening until mixture is like coarse crumbs. Add combined egg and milk, stirring just until moistened. Turn out on slightly floured surface. Divide dough in half; pat out to ½ inch thick. Cut with biscuit cutter. Place on greased cookie sheet and bake @450º for 15-18 minutes. Split biscuits and spread with softened butter. Sweeten strawberries with ½ cup sugar. Place sweetened berries between layers and on top. Serve with a dollop of whipped cream. |

Notes: When the kids were growing up, they knew that it was a special occasion when we had strawberry shortcake, some liked more strawberries and others like the whipped cream. They still have the same likes now.
