1 1/2 c. sugar (1/2 brown, 1/2 white)
1/2 c. boiling water
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 c. shortening (I prefer butter)
1 c. molasses
4 tsp. baking soda
5 1/2 c. flour

Directions:
Directions:
Put molasses and shortening in a large bowl. Add baking soda to boiling water and pour that on molasses and shortening and mix well until shortening is melted. Add all the other ingredients and mix well. Refrigerated dough for at least one hour. Preheat oven to 375 F. Roll dough out to approximately 1/4" thickness and cut out gingerbread men. Bake 10-12 minutes.
