Sift together: 3 c. flour, 3 rounded (slightly) tsp. baking bowder, 1 tsp. salt, 1 T. poppy seeds. Cut in 1/2 c. shortening (1/2 butter, 1/2 crisco), add 1 c. milk. Stir. Flatten or roll and place on cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 20-25 minutes depending on size. Remove from oven - smear butter on top of biscuits to keep them soft.

I added poppy seeds to my mothers recipe for baking powder biscuits for Brie. We used to read a story about Auntie Katuska and the poppy seed cakes; Brie wanted some.
