3/4 c. soft shortening (part butter)
1 c. brown sugar (packed)
1 3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
1 l/2 c. rolled oats
Cook over low heat until thickened(about 10 min.) Cool
Date Filling: 3 c. cut up dates
1/4 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. water

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 400 F. Mix shortening and sugar. Blend flour, soda, & salt. Mix in rolled oats. Flatten half of mixture in bottom of greased 9 x 13 pan. Spread with cooled date filling. Top with remaining crumb mixture, patting lightly. Bake 25-30 minutes.
