2 cups Betty Crocker Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix
1 egg
2 Tbsp cooking oil
2/3 cup water
1 can Del Monte Dark Sweet Cherries in heavy syrup
2 Tbsp corn starch




Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray 9 inch pie pan with Pam or other non-stick cooking spray. Mix 1st 4 ingredients in large bowl with wire whisk or electric mixer. Put corn starch in small pan, put 2 tbsp of juice from cherries in and mix well with corn starch, add the remainder of the juice to pan. Cook over medium heat just to boiling. Stir in the cherries. Put 3/4 cup of cake mix in pie pan. Spread out into an even layer with back of spoon or rubber spatula. Pour the cherry mixture over this layer. Spoon the rest of the cake mixture on the cherries in dollops, then gently spread with spatual until cherries are covered. Bake in 350 oven for 20 minutes. Let cool.

Chocolate/cherry torte. I make these for Ray. He has a tendency for gout and we learned that eating cherries can prevent recurrances. This is not syrupy sweet, just plain delicious. Best served with ice cream. If you prefer a sweeter dessert, substitute a can of Comstock Cherry Pie Filling and omit the corn starch. I have made it both ways and we prefer the following recipe. 1 box of BC cake mix is enough for 2 recipes.
