1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
1 cup sliced red onions, seperated into rings
3 Tbsp butter or margarine
1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp salt
4 slices bacon, cut into 1/2 inch pieces (for the non-Vegetarian version)

Directions:
Directions:
In 3 quart saucepan place beans and bacon; add enough water to cover. Bring to a full boil. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until beans are crisply tender (20 to 25 minutes). Drain. Return to pan; add remaining ingredients. Cook over medium heat; stirring occasionally, until onion is crisply tender (5 to 7 minutes)
