1 C. margarine
1 1/2 C. sugar
3 eggs
1 t. vanilla
3 1/2 C. all-purpose flour
2 t. cream of tartar
1 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt
Cookie cutters
Frosting:
2 C. powdered sugar
light cream
dash salt
1 t. vanilla

Dough:
Cream margarine. Add sugar gradually, creaming until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Stir in vanilla. Add dry ingredients gradually to creamed mixture. Chill thoroughly (3 to 4 hours).
On well-floured surface, roll to 1/8 to 1/4 in.. Cut into shapes. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 375 F for 6 to 8 minutes. Cool slightly on cookie sheet; remove to rack.
Confectionery frosting:
Add enough light cream to 2 C. confectionery sugar to make of spreading consistency. Add dash of salt and 1 t. vanilla.
Decorate cookies with confectionery frosting and your favorite toppings (red cinnamon candies, candy decorates, or colored sugar).

These cookies can be made any time of year, but they always remind me of Christmastime. Growing up my family and I would make a total mess of the kitchen decorating these cookies. A more recent memory came in 2005 when I helped my sister make these cookies. My sister's most prized cookie was the Angel of Death, an angel shaped cookie covered with white frosting and black colored sugar.
