This recipe for Fried Oysters for Two, by Richard Bailey, is from Dick's Cookbook,

16 large oysters, drained (about 1 pound) 1/3 c. fine dry bread crumbs 1 egg, lightly beaten 2 tbsp. very finely chopped walnuts 2 tbsp. flour 2 tbsp. butter 2 tbsp. oil 1/4 tsp. allspice dash of black pepper
Combine flour with pepper and allspice. Roll oysters in mixture and allow to dry for 15 minutes. Combine bread crumbs with walnuts and dip oysters in egg then roll in bread crumb mixture. Let stand another 15 minutes to allow crust to dry. Heat butter and oil in frying pan. Add oysters and brown over medium high heat about 4 minutes on each side. Serve hot with tartar sauce, french fries and catsup.
