1 large smoked ham hock, 1-1/2 to 2 pounds
1 pkg. split pea soup mix
6 c. water
2 c. chicken broth
1 clove garlic, minced
1 bay leaf
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp. pepper

Directions:
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in 4 to 6 quart dutch oven or large saucepan. Bring to a boil and cover. Lower hear to simmer and stir from time to time until peas are tender. Remove ham hock and allow to cool. Separate meat from bone and fat and add to soup. Discard bay leaf. Reheat soup and serve
