1 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2 egg, beaten
Grated rind of 1 lemon
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. milk
1 t. baking powder
1/2 t. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar in shortening. Add eggs and beat well. Blend in the grated rind of 1 lemon. Measure flour and add to mixture. Add milk, baking powder, and salt. Be sure mixture is blended until smooth. Turn into a buttered bread pan and bake 55 minutes at 325 degrees.
In a cup mix the juice of 1 lemon and 1/2 cup sugar. When bread is done pour over the lemon sugar mixture and loosen bread at the sides to drip. Leave in the pan for 15 minutes. Serve sliced thin and buttered.
