1 c shortening
1/2 c brown sugar
1/2 c white sugar
2 eggs
2 3/4 c flour
1/2 tsp soda
1 tsp salt
2 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cloves
1 tsp vanilla
chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Mix all ingredients together and wrap in wax paper to form a loaf. Refrigerate until firm and then cut into 1/4 inch slices. Bake at 350 for 15 to 20 minutes.

I always double the spices when I make these.

The cookies are intended to be hard when cooled. They are great for dunking in coffee.

These are the cookies that my Mother-in-law always made for my Husband during the holiday season. When she passed, I started making them as a way to bring back those memories for him and to honor her.
