1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 cut butter
3 eggs
4 cups flours
1 Tsp. baking soda
1 Tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt

Filling:
1 lb. finely chopped dates
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup hot water
1 cup finely chopped nuts.

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter, sugars, vanilla & eggs. Add flour, salt, dissolve baking soda in 1 tsp. hot water & add.

Work together & divide into 4 portions.

On floured board roll out 1/2" think and spread with filling.

Filling:
Bring 1st three ingredients to a slow boil long enough to soften dates, then add nuts. Cool slightly.

After adding filling to dough, roll and wrap in paper -chill overnight.

Slice 1/3" thick & place on baking sheet.

Bake @ 350 until lightly browned - appx. 10 min.

This one came from "Grandmommie" Musholt (Stan's Mother). She always said mine came out so perfect. I think it was only because it took so much time. These take a bit of practice to achieve nice round slices. I usually reshape them a bit on the sheet.
