½ cup Shortening
1 Egg
1 cup Brown Sugar
¼ cup Buttermilk
½ tsp Baking Soda
½ c Nuts, chopped
½ tsp Salt
1 ¾ cups Flour, sifted
1 cup Dates, chopped
1 cup Cherries, quartered

Directions:

Mix shortening, sugar, and egg thoroughly. Stir in buttermilk. Sift together flour, baking soda, and salt. Stir in. Mix in nuts, cherries and dates. Chill. Drop with a teaspoon about 2 inches apart onto a lightly greased baking sheet. Top each one with a pecan or cherry. Bake at 375ºF for 8-10 minutes.
