1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions:
Directions:
In a bowl combine flour, baking soda and salt.

In a large bowl, with mixer on medium speed, beat butter and sugar one minute until creamy, occasionally scraping down the bowl with a rubber spatula.

Add egg and vanilla; beat until well-mixed.

Reduce speed to low, gradually beat in flour mixture until blended.

Once you have this dough done, roll it into a tube-shape and wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least one hour. Unwrap and slice into cookies!

This is a simple cookie dough which is the starting point for all holiday cookie recipes. It calls for butter - do not substitute with margarine or other butter-like spreads.
