1 1/2 c. cornmeal 1 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. baking soda 2 tsp. baking powder 1/4 c. sugar 1 egg 1 1/4 c. buttermilk
Mix all dry ingredients. Add beaten egg and buttermilk.
Heat small amount of oil in iron skillet and pour in mixture. Bake at 400º until golden brown.
Vance has always LOVED his mother's cornbread, and I could never quite get it right. Imagine my delight when Sandra, our pastor's wife, served this cornbread and Vance said, "This is just like my mother's!" Thanks, Sandra!
