Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 – 16 oz bag of navy beans
½ c ketchup and or 1 c of tomato juice
6 tsp sugar
3-6 strips of bacon
salt to taste

Directions:
Directions:
Place beans in a deep pan and cover with water and add salt and let them soak over night.

The next day, cook them for 1 hour over medium-high heat, stir frequently to make sure they don’t stick. You might have to add more water, check for doneness after 1 hour. Butter a deep casserole dish, use a spoon that has holes and scoop out ½ of the beans and place them in the dish. Add the strips of bacon (you will be making 2 layers). Place the bacon over the beans, sprinkle with salt. Make a second layer of beans, bacon and salt. Spread ketchup over the top as well as sprinkle the sugar. Pour liquid saved from the beans over that, make sure it comes almost up to the top of the casserole dish. Cover and bake at 350º for 1 hour. Check every 15 minutes, add more bean water and stir as needed.
