Ingredients:
Ingredients:
Butter – melted ½ cup or 1 stick
Onion – finely chopped – 3 or 4 TB
Stale bread crumbs – 4 cups
1 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
1/8 – Ό c parsley
1/3 – ½ c milk

Optional – ½ pt fresh oysters

Directions:
Directions:
Break bread crumbs into bowl (you can use any bread on hand – does not have to be stale). Add to this mixture all other ingredients. Add more milk as you form it into a ball or log. Put on a piece of aluminum foil and crimp the edges together. Place on a small pan, dish, or cookie sheet and bake in oven for the last hour of whatever you are baking – turkey, chicken, etc. Or put in covered casserole dish for 45 minutes to 1 hour at 325-350 degrees. Slice and serve.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
My grandmother sent me this recipe in an email the year after I was married. This is what she wrote:

I know you will have no trouble making this dressing. Actually, I guess I originally started making this dressing before they came out with Stove Top, etc. But I also had a Woman’s Home Companion Cookbook which I bought in 1944 when we first got married. Under dressing it says this: Some people prefer a fluffy, crumbly dressing. Others prefer a moist more compact dressing, so they add liquid. Guess that’s what I did. The book also says seasonings should be added causiously. They mention sage, thyme, poultry seasonings, etc but I never added anything other than salt and pepper.
