3/4 C Crisco (solid) shortening
1C Sugar
1/4 C molasses


2 1/4 C flour
2 tsp baking soda
1tsp cinnamon
1tsp ground ginger
1 tsp ground cloves

Preheat oven between 375 - 400 degrees (385')

Line airbake cookie sheets with parchment paper.

Using mixer combine Crisco, sugar and molasses in large bowl.

In a medium bowl combine dry ingredients.

Add dry ingredients to the molasses mixture in batches and combine thoroughly.

Make 1 inch dough balls and roll each cookie ball in granulated sugar.

Place on cookie sheet.

Bake 10 minutes.

This was my grandmother's recipe and we have loved these cookies for a LONG time. One trick to keep molasses cookies moist is to place a piece of bread in the cookie jar or Tupperware container along with the cookies. Be sure to change the slice of bread for a new one as it dries out - the cookies will stay tasty and moist.
