1 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. shortening
2 beaten eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1 3/4 c. flour
1 3/4 c. quick oatmeal
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1 pkg. (9 oz.) chocolate chips
1 can sweetened condensed milk
Nuts, optional

Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs and vanilla. Fold in baking soda, flour, salt and oatmeal; mix well. Pat 2/3 of mixture into a 9x13 pan. Melt chocolate chips and sweetened condensed milk. Mix well and spread on dough. Place remaining dough on top of chocolate mixture in dabs. Nuts may be added, if desired. Bake 20 minutes at 350 degrees. When cool, cut into bars.
