1 1/2 cups sugar; 1 cup shortening; 3 eggs; 1 tsp soda; 2 T boiling water;

3 Cups flour; 1/2 tsp salt; 2 tsp nutmeg; 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 1/2 cups chopped dates with boilig water

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar, and shortening. Add eggs. Dissolve soda in 2 T boiling water.

Add to sugar mixture. Shift together 3 cups flour, salt, nutmeg and cinnamon.

Add the sugar mixture.

Cover chopped dates with boiling water (pour off immediately.

Add the dates and nuts.

Bake at 375º
