1 cup butter or margarine.
2 cups chopped nuts.
2 cups sugar.
1 1/3 cups shredded coconut.
4 eggs.
1/2 cup buttermilk.
1 tsp baking soda.
3 1/2 cups all purpose flour.
1 pound dates seeded and chopped.
1 pound candied orange slices.
1 cup fresh orange juice.
2 cups confectioners sugar.

Directions:

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time and beat after each egg. Dissolve baking soda in buttermilk, add to creamed mixture. Place flour in a large bowl and add dates, orange slices and nuts. Stir to coat each piece. Add flour mixture and coconut to creamed misture. Bake in 13 x 9 x 3 inch pan at 250 degrees for 2 to 2 1/2 hours. Combine one cup fresh 1 cup orange juice and 2 cups confectioners sugar and pour over the hot cake. Let stane in pan over night.
