¾ C sugar
¼ C honey
1 egg
2 C flour
¼ nutmeg
1 C chopped walnuts
1½ tsp grated lemon rind
⅛ finely chopped fruits and peels (these are found at Christmas time. They are used to make fruitcake)
Small amt of frosting (Can be colored) Extra walnuts

Combine sugar, honey and the egg. Mix well. Combine salt, flour and nutmeg. Stir into the sugar honey mixture. Add remaining ingredients mix thoroughly and chill. Roll ¼ of the dough on a lightly floured surface to ⅛ in thickness. Cut with a 2 in cookie cutter. Place on a greased cookie sheet and bake 350º for 10-12 min until edges lightly browned.
Decorate with butter frosting and ½ a walnut.

These were perhaps my favorite cookies that mom(June) made at Christmas. Don't be afraid of the fruits and peels sounding like fruit cake because these cookies do not. They are so pretty with a dollop of red or green frosting in the middle and the walnut. Think they may be of Greek origin.
Usually we made them in the shape of a circle or a star.
