1/2 cup shortening
1/3 cup margarine, softened
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups M & M's

Directions:
Directions:
Combine margarine, sugar, egg and vanilla. Beat until fluffy. Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Stir into egg mixture. Stir in 1 cup of M & M's. Roll dough into 1 1/2 in balls. Place about 4 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet. Press in remaining candies to decorate tops. Bake in preheated 350 oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool 1 to 2 minutes on baking sheet, then remove to cooling rack.
