1 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
41/2 cups flour
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda

Directions:
Directions:
Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees.
Combine all ingredients and let chill.
After chilled, place flour on counter top and roll out dough to desired thickness
Using your favorite cookie cutters, cut cookies and place on a greased cookie sheet
Bake at 400 degrees.
Decorate as desired.

These cookies have been part of the Hopkins holiday kitchen as far back as I can remember. Mom would make enough of these cookies for an Army and always included them in her annual holiday cookies gifts for family and friends.
