1 1/2 c sugar
1 c margarine
1 egg
1/2 t vanilla (old recipe says 1/2 t oil of anise)
2 T light Karo syrup
2 t baking soda
1 t cloves
1 t ginger
3 1/2 c flour

Directions:
Directions:
Cream margarine and sugar til fluffy. Add egg. Add liquids. Set aside. Sift dry ingredients. Add 1/2 mixture to liquids. Stir. Mix in rest of dry ingredients. Knead well. Place dough in tightly covered container, store in fridge, at least overnight. Roll dough into thin ropes and slice into pieces about the size of acorns. Bake on greased cookie sheet for 7-10 minutes. (Less for chewy, more for crunchy) Remove cookies from pan while still hot and roll in cinnamon sugar mixture.
