1 C lard or shortening
1 C sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp almond flavoring
2 C flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 C finely ground toasted almonds
Whole blanched almonds
1 egg yolk
1 tsp water

Directions:
Directions:
In a mixing bowl, cream lard, sugar, egg and almond flavoring. Combine flour, ground almonds and salt, stir into creamed mixture to blend. Shape into 1 1/2 " balls, place 2 " apart on ungreased sheet. Press whole almonds into center of each cookie. Beat egg yolk and water and brush over cookie. Bake at 375 for 12 - 15 minutes.
