2 c uncooked macaroni
¼ c butter
¼ c flour
1 tsp dry mustard (or 1 ½ tsp regular mustard)
1 tsp garlic salt
½ tsp dry crushed basil
½ tsp paprika
2 c milk
2 c shredded cheddar cheese
¼ c fine dry bread crumbs or cracker crumbs
1 tbsp butter melted
Chopped parsley (optional topping)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cook macaroni according to package directions. In a cooking pot melt ¼ c butter. Blend in flour, mustard, garlic salt, basil and paprika. Cook and stir over medium heat until the mixture comes to a boil and thickens. Remove from heat. Add cheese, stir until melted. Stir in cooked macaroni. Spoon into a greased 1½ quart baking dish. Combine crumbs and melted butter; sprinkle over casserole. Bake 20 minutes or until hot. Garnish with parsley.

This is very tasty macaroni! If you are making it ahead for another day use a bit more milk, as the macaroni continues to absorb as it cool...but is still very good! I copied this recipe off a macaroni box in the early 80s and have made it many many times!
