"The tradition of Italian cooking is that of the matriarch. This is the cooking of grandma. She didn't waste time thinking too much about the celery. She got the best celery she could and then she dealt with it."--Mario Batali

Ingredients:
Ingredients:
3 cups self-rising flour
½ cup sugar
1 bottle (12 ounces) beer, at room temperature
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 375°F. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and sugar. Add the beer all at once, mixing as little as possible; the batter should be lumpy.
Pour the batter into a 9-x-5-x-3-inch loaf pan and pour the melted butter over the top. Bake in the oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until an inserted skewer comes out clean. Turn out onto a rack to cool.
Tips: If you do not have self-rising flour, use 3 cups all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon salt. For less sweet bread, reduce sugar to 3 tablespoons.
