Cake:
1 cup sugar
2 Tablespoon shortening
1 egg
3 cups fresh diced apples
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon soda
1/2 teaspoon each: nutmeg, salt, cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped nuts




Sauce:
1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup heavy cream
2 teaspoon vanilla

Cake:
Cream sugar, shortening and egg. Add chopped apples, vanilla and dry ingredients. Add chopped nuts. Bake in greased and floured 8x8 pan at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.


Sauce:
Stir all ingredients together and heat over low temperature for 12-15 minutes. DO NOT BOIL!
Add 2 teaspoons vanilla. Serve over cake.
