1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
2 eggs
3 tsp. vanilla
4 c. flour
1 tsp. cloves
2 tsp. allspice
3 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. baking soda
2 c. apple sauce

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter, shortening, sugar, eggs, and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Sift flour and spices. Add the other 2 teaspoons of vanilla and soda to apple sauce. Alternate adding flour and applesauce into creamed butter mixture - mix with large spoon. Stir well, batter will be stiff. Bake at 400. Keeps refrigerated about 3 weeks (in batter form).

You can vary the cloves, allspice, and cinnamon a little - as long as you keep them in order of amounts (ie - more cinnamon than cloves or allspice - and more allspice than cloves).
