2 cups sugar
2 cups flour (mix or sift sugar and flour together)
1 stick oleo (butter)
1 cup water
4 tbsp cocoa
1/4 cup buttermilk
2 eggs
1 tsp soda
1 tsp vanilla

Frosting:

4 tbsp (1/4 cup) buttermilk
1 stick oleo (butter)
4 tbsp cocoa
1 box powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup nuts (if desired)

Cake:

Preheat oven to 375º. Bring butter, water and cocoa to rapid boil and pour over flour mixed with sugar in large mixing bowl. Mix buttermilk with soda, vanilla and eggs in small mixing bowl than add to flour/sugar mixture. Mix well and bake in a well greased and floured 13 X 9 pan for 20 minutes until knife inserted comes out clean.

Frosting:

Melt and bring to boil buttermilk, oleo and cocoa. Remove from heat and add powdered sugar, vanilla and nuts to pan. Miix until smooth (you will get a good arm workout)!

Every birthday I ask what kind of cake do you want and this has been the choice for almost every celebration. (Except when were little and wanted store bought)! It is always delicious (I think it's the buttermilk).
