Ingredients:
Ingredients:
sliced bread of your choice
1 or 2 eggs per serving
Poppy seeds (Penzeys.com is my brand choice or www.bagel-it.com)
butter
salt and pepper to taste (Himilayan salt or sea salt/ freshly ground pepper)

Directions:
Directions:
In a non-stick skillet to fit your bread slices melt enough butter to brown the bread. With a cookie cutter or glass, cut out the center of the bread. (Sometimes I use a knife and cut out a square.) Put the bread and cut out bread in the skillet and turn it over when it's browned. Crack an egg in the center, add a sprinkle of poppy seeds and salt/pepper to taste. Flip the "Toad - in - a - Hole's" over carefully. Remember to flip the cutouts, too. Enjoy!

My maternal grandmother, Theodora Seale Davis always made these for her children, Gloria and Harold in the 1930's without the poppy seeds.
